John M. Gunn International Scholarship for Visiting Students

Find below some information on a one year scholarship (John M. Gunn International Scholarship for Visiting Students) for international students to attend Washington and Lee University.

Washington and Lee University is pleased to offer the John M. Gunn International Scholarship to international students of exceptional academic, personal and professional promise who are currently seeking an undergraduate degree at an academic institution outside of the United States. Through the Gunn Scholarship, eligible students are invited to spend one year at W&L to augment the major studies in which they are engaged at their home institutions. Gunn scholars may come from any academic discipline, but it is usually expected that while at Washington and Lee they will focus their work in our Williams School of Commerce, Economics, and Politics. While here, Gunn Scholars are also encouraged to take courses outside of their disciplines in order to round out their program of study.

To date, we have had Gunn scholars from Belarus, the Philippines, Bolivia, Brazil, Kyrgyzstan, South Africa, Ghana, Egypt, Albania, Romania, Yemen and Denmark.

The Gunn Scholarship was endowed by Alfred Harrison, Vice Chairman and Director of Alliance Capital Management Holdings, L.P. Holding his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Christ's College, Cambridge University in his native England, Mr. Harrison spent a year as a visiting student at W&L before going on to develop a successful career in Europe and North America. While at W&L, he was a student of John M. Gunn, Professor Emeritus of Economics at W&L, in whose honor this scholarship was created.

In order to be eligible to apply for the Gunn Scholarship, the student must:

-be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at a university outside of the US
