John M. Gunn International Scholarship for Visiting Students |
To date, we have had Gunn scholars from Belarus, the Philippines, Bolivia, Brazil, Kyrgyzstan, South Africa, Ghana, Egypt, Albania, Romania, Yemen and Denmark. The Gunn Scholarship was endowed by Alfred Harrison, Vice Chairman and Director of Alliance Capital Management Holdings, L.P. Holding his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Christ's College, Cambridge University in his native England, Mr. Harrison spent a year as a visiting student at W&L before going on to develop a successful career in Europe and North America. While at W&L, he was a student of John M. Gunn, Professor Emeritus of Economics at W&L, in whose honor this scholarship was created. In order to be eligible to apply for the Gunn Scholarship, the student must: -be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at a university outside of the US -have an outstanding academic record and strong extracurricular background -have strong English language skills -be able to articulate a clear purpose for spending a year studying at Washington and Lee -demonstrate financial need in order to qualify for full or partial funding.
